Light For Your Life

The utility companies today are constantly urging us to conserve energy.  They tell us, and even warn us, to turn off the lights.  “Save energy,” they urge.  Today is the time for conserving.  It is a day when we cut back.  While this practice may be ok for your electricity bills, there is a good thing about light.  Light provides positive energy.  This energy is something that you cannot pay for.
During the summer months it is easy to step outside and get a healthy dose of sunlight for some positive energy.  Sunlight provides a lot of happiness for many individuals and has many health benefits.  Often, during the winter months, many individuals struggle due to lack of sun exposure.  Too many clouds translate to less sunlight and often sadness.  For some people this sadness can cause a disorder known as Seasonal Affective Disorder.
One of the best ways to combat the lack of sunlight during the winter months and avoid depression is by adding light back to your life.  This light may not be the natural light that comes from sun exposure; however, it can be other forms of light.  One of the best options comes from sad therapy lamps.  These lamps are recommended by many medical professionals to treat SAD.

Vitamin D All Year Round

There is a new show on tv this season called, Glee.  It is a great show depicting young high schoolers that sing in the Glee club.  On a recent episode, the students were struggling with fatigue.  They had been overworked, and they were experiencing stress and anxiety.  The school nurse decided that these students needed some vitamin D to cure their troubles.
Although all vitamins are important and the nurse on Glee knew the benefits of vitamin D.  Those who lack vitamin D often experience fatigue and even depression.  Interestingly, vitamin D is tied directly to sunlight.  Although many health officials warn that too much sun exposure is bad for our skin, there is a plus side to the sun – it provides us with vitamin D, an essential nutrient.  This vitamin gives us energy.
Unfortunately, during the winter months we do not see the sun as often.  This means we get less access to vitamin D.  Since the sun is not shining, many people will experience a disorder known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).  This disorder can be avoided with enough vitamin D in the body.  Also consider using SAD therapy lamps.  They will help add light to your life in the absence of sunlight.

Cold May Contribute To SAD

sad lights

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a disorder that affects many individuals every year as the season and the climate change.  Individuals do not see the sun as often because of the season change.  For this reason, they experience a variety of side effects.  Many of these side effects are common to those who are suffering from anxiety or depression.  Often, it is easy to mistake the disorders.

One of the biggest contributors to the disorder is the climate change itself.  There is a lack of light and a lack of warmth.  Thus, individuals struggle due to the gloomy, bitter cold weather they have to bear outdoors everyday.
Health professionals are recommending non-prescription alternatives to combat the problems associated with SAD.  For example, investing in a SAD therapy light will help mimic the sun that is no longer shining.  Additionally, a coat and a scarf will provide excess warmth when the weather is particularly cold.  This will be extremely beneficial.  Cold weather will only worsen the disorder and make the problems more difficult to overcome.
If you do not have a SAD lamp, consider purchasing one today.  And, even if it may not seem cold try to add an extra layer to your wardrobe everyday.  It will make a difference!

Depressed Because Its Winter Or Winter Depression?

sad lights

There are certain things that can cause people to change their mood.  For example, almost everyone who receives a ticket when they are driving is unhappy about the situation.  And, many people are frustrated when they feel like they have overpaid for an item.  However, it sounds extreme to say that someone is depressed because the season changed.
Maybe if a person does not enjoy cold weather than they might be depressed about the thought of winter.  Or, they might enjoy surfing or laying out on the beach.  In this case, winter might be particularly depressing as well.
Although there are certain situations or scenarios that might push someone towards depression during the winter months, for some people the depression might be more severe medical condition.  This disorder, known as seasonal affective disorder, is actually a winter depression.  The lack of sunlight in the winter months causes many individuals to experience a change in mood.  For some this condition causes anxiety, others irritability, and for many depression.  If you are experiencing depression during the winter you might not be depressed because it is winter, you might actually have winter depression.  Consider the options available, including sad lamps, to help treat this problem.
