A SAD Doctor

Many people that suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder may wonder where to begin in terms of treatment.  Are they supposed to try to get better on their own, suffer through their symptoms during the winter, or see a doctor?  While there are many beneficial things you can do on your own to overcome SAD, seeing a doctor might allow you to recover from your symptoms faster.

Finding The Right Doctor

Since SAD is not a top condition, finding a doctor that specializes in the treatment of SAD may not be easy.  However, you might be able to find a doctor that understands common mental illnesses, including depression and SAD.  This might be a good option for you.  Obviously most people begin with their general doctor and move on to a specialist.  You can find a specialist in your area through referrals and recommendations.

Consider This

While you are looking for a doctor, it will be important to evaluate other features you are looking for in a doctor.  Do you feel comfortable with the doctor?  Can you ask questions?  Does the doctor help you understand what you are going through?  Ask yourself these types of questions before you select a doctor to help you overcome SAD.
