Are You Afraid Of The Dark?

Little children are often afraid of the dark.  Lots of money has been invested in night lights to help kids overcome their fear of the dark.  After all, a little light is better than complete darkness.  Unfortunately, during the winter months light can be difficult to come by – especially natural light.

Absence Of Light

The lack of light during the winter can be depressing.  And, although individuals are typically not afraid of the dark once they’ve reached a certain age, they also tend to prefer the daylight.  Light corresponds with happiness.  There is a scientific reason behind this.  Sunlight provides our bodies with serotonin – a hormone that regulates our mood.  Without it, we can experience irritability and even depression.  This is why many individuals develop Seasonal Affective Disorder during the winter.

Adding Light During The Winter

To avoid SAD or treat SAD during the winter, individuals need to add light back to their lives during the winter.  Since light does not appear naturally, it is important to add it back artificially.  This can be accomplished using a SAD lamp or a light box.  Daily use of one of these lights will mimic the sunlight and help prevent depression during the winter.  Purchase a lamp today to help you during the winter.
