Can The Doctor Help Me With My Winter Blues?

During the winter, many individuals suffer from the winter blues.  It is common for individuals to be less happy during the wintertime for several reasons.  However one of the main reasons for decreased happiness is lack of sunlight exposure.  This can lead to the winter blues and a more serious condition known as Seasonal Affective Disorder.

Should You See A Doctor?

For many people, it may be difficult to determine whether they are just feeling a little down or if perhaps their symptoms have progressed to a more serious problem like SAD.  For this reason, it is helpful if patients will keep a journal to document their symptoms.  In doing so, they will effectively be able to pin point when their symptoms get worse (if they do).

Go To The Doctor If Your Symptoms Get Worse

Perhaps you have seen the commercials that say, “If your depression worsens.”  In a similar manner, if your feelings of winter blues worsen during the colder months of the year, it is a good indication that you might want to visit the doctor.  Explain to your doctor how your mood has changed and what your symptoms are.  Then listen and see what your doctor suggests to help you overcome these issues.
