Friends Eliminate SADness

If you study depression and other mental illness, you will come to understand that there is a correlation between loneliness and the illness.  Typically those who feel alone are more prone to mental illness.  Human nature drives an individual towards friends and companions; therefore loneliness could definitely lead to depression.


Socializing


Interestingly, those that develop Seasonal Affective Disorder, a type of depression, often lose motivation to be social.  This lack of motivation can be detrimental to their health and put them at risk for getting worse.  Why?  Socializing is good for an individual’s wellbeing.  It is a positive thing for a person to make connections with people and establish friendships.  These friendships will lead to a support system that is imperative for everyone in life.


Those That Are SAD Need Friends


Although people with SAD lose their desire to socialize, it is important that they continue spending time with their friends.  These friends will be a positive part of their life during a down point in their life.  They will be a valuable support to them, helping them to overcome the depression that they are feeling.  Even if they do not talk directly about the depression, just the act of socializing itself can be a very good thing.
