During the winter, many people suffer from a mental illness known as Seasonal Affective Disorder. This type of condition is a form of depression. It is an extreme version of the winter blues and its symptoms present themselves during the fall and winter months when the sunlight disappears. Perhaps you are suffering from SAD. How do you know? Fatigue
One of the biggest issues that people deal with who are SAD is fatigue. The lack of sunlight causes their bodies to produce an excess amount of melatonin. This causes their body to want to sleep more often and can throw off their normal sleeping pattern. It can make them feel more tired than normal.
Mood Changes
The lack of sunlight can also cause mood and behavioral changes. Typically these feelings are similar to those suffering from a case of the winter blues. However, these people may also deal with irritability, depression, and a lack of motivation.
Weight Change
Lastly, it is not uncommon for these individuals to experience a change in their weight. This usually occurs because they experience a change in their eating habits.
