The Bitter Cold

This time of year can be somewhat cold no matter where you live.  During the month of January, it seems like the sun does not shine and the weather changes.  It can be frustrating to deal with the winter weather conditions.  Sometimes you step outside your house and all you feel is the bitter cold hitting your body.  You want to rush back inside and cuddle up by the fire, however instead you have to face the outside world.


Cold Weather And Your Health


This type of weather can be particularly unbearable and it can also be difficult for a person’s health.  First, the cold can make you more susceptible to sickness.  It is easier to catch the flu and other viruses in the winter.  Also, during the winter you are also more susceptible to mental illnesses.  The winter blues are sadly a reality that many people deal with daily.  However, if your mood gets too low, it can develop into a type of seasonal depression that lasts throughout the winter.  This depression is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder.

SAD

SAD affects a number of individuals that do not cope well with the winter weather conditions.  The lack of sunlight is the main cause of SAD.  And, if SAD is not treated properly it can get worse.  If you are suffering from SAD, make sure that you see a doctor.  It is important that you evaluate the best ways to treat your symptoms.
