Why Do You Get SAD When It Rains?
If you took a survey and asked ten of your friends whether or not they liked the rain, the majority of them would probably respond with a “no.” Rain is an inconvenience for most people. It is obvious that the majority of people do not like rain. All you have to do is look at people’s Facebook statuses when it rains and notice that people are unhappy. However, rarely do people update their status when the weather is normal – because normal is expected.
Weather Affects You
Whether you like it or not, the weather has an effect on you. The change in seasons and the change in weather can cause a change in your mood. The outside environment changing sends a message to your brain that something is different. Because of this, sometimes your brain does not know how to react.
There are some individuals that are severely affected by these changes. They suffer from mental illnesses. One condition that many suffer from is called Seasonal Affective Disorder. These people become depressed as the seasons change. The lack of sunlight in particular can cause their mood to shift and it is likely that it will not return to normal until springtime. That is, unless they receive appropriate treatment for their condition, treatments like light therapy.
